These are questions we get asked every time and in this article, I’ll explain what each of these phrases means, why it matters to your website’s search performance, and give some tips for improving them over time.

Before we delve into this deeper, let’s understand their differences first before talking about how much they affect a website’s page rankings.

What is the domain authority of a website?

We have different SEO tech companies out there that roll out different algorithms to help search engines better understand the value of a website and how well it should be placed on the search engine results page (SERP). One of those companies is Moz.

Moz helps to create a scoring system that values a website using different metrics to determine the authority of a website.

By definition, the domain authority of a website is a scoring system created by Moz that tells the strengths of a website and how well it can possibly rank on search engine result pages (SERPs). It’s calculated using a combination of on-site and off-site factors of SEO.

It’s important to note that it’s not majorly about the number of websites but the quality of backlinks. A single backlink from an authority site with DA 80 would contribute to your DA more than 2 backlinks from DA 20 respectively.
